WEAR YOUR JERSEY WEDNESDAYS

Emmanuel Carrillo June 16, 2026

(Español abajo)

SOCCER IS SOLIDARITY

Wear your soccer jersey on Wednesdays to stand with immigrant youth.

During the World Cup™, millions of fans around the world wear the jerseys of national teams they feel connected to through culture, country of origin, or just due to appreciation. Recently, a Seattle student shared that she and her friends are fearful of wearing their jerseys because of the risk of being targeted by ICE. Washington workers know that we are more protected and more powerful when we join together.

A soccer jersey represents family, culture, country, community, memory, and pride. No young person should feel they have to hide who they are to feel safe at school, at work, or in their neighborhood.

That is why Working Washington is joining Soccer Is Solidarity / Wear Your Soccer Jersey Wednesdays. This grassroots community effort calls on students, workers, educators, businesses, teams, and neighbors across Seattle to wear soccer jerseys every Wednesday as a visible show of solidarity with immigrant youth.

Last week, CJ Garcia, Co-Director of Organizing at Working Washington, spoke at the press conference announcing the community effort.

As Seattle is holding the 2026 FIFA World Cup games, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to show what kind of city we are. Welcoming the world means standing with the people from around the globe who already live, work, study, and build community here.

How to participate:

- Wear any soccer jersey: Any team, country, or club.

- When: Every Wednesday.

Immigrant youth deserve to be seen, supported, and safe. Culture is not something to hide, and when everyone wears a jersey, no one stands alone.
