I would say that my most important family responsibility is to provide, and there is comfort in knowing that your family member is getting the necessary care that is needed, and without penalty.
If you have a sick family member, the fact that you won't have to worry about a smaller pay check removes a huge mental burden from the issue at hand.
An employee who can focus on their job is an employee that will give a much better days work, not having to worry about things that negatively affect their family.
