Part of Working Washington's Future of Work Think & Drink Series!
Seattle is a major hub in the US tech industry. As we lead on robots and AI that streamline productivity, we are falling behind on finding solutions for workers whose jobs become obsolete. Some think the problem will sort itself out, and others have proposed radical solutions. For example, India is looking at Universal Basic Income, but they are also talking about banning self-driving cars. Once we stop spending human hours driving cars, what should we do with that time, those jobs, and that income? Are the fears overblown or do we need to start thinking about a post-work society? Let’s talk it over and see if we can find some responsible ways forward.
