Who what why when and how we can Raise up washington

What is Initiative 1433?

When passed, I-1433 will raise up Washington workers and Washington’s economy by increasing the statewide minimum wage to $13.50/hour over the next four years and providing up to 7 days of paid sick & safe leave for workers in our state. More about what Initiative 1433 will do

Raising wages is good for workers and it’s good for the economy too. After all, when more people have more money, that means more customers for more businesses. And that raises up everyone!

So, how do we (and you!) make this happen? The first step is already in the history books — more than 300,000 registered voters signed petitions to qualify Initiative 1433 for this year’s ballot. So if you’re a registered voter in the state, you’ll have a chance to vote to raise up Washington this fall.

Now that we're on the ballot, only four more steps to go…

1) Pledge to vote yes on I-1433 — and let us know you want to get involved.

When you pledge to vote yes on I-1433, it accomplishes a few things: it lets us know that you know what’s at stake and you’re voting to Raise Up Washington, it gives us an excuse to remind you to cast that vote when ballots get mailed out in November, and it gives you a chance to let us know how how you want to get involved.

So go ahead and pledge to vote Yes on I-1433 RIGHT NOW.

2) TELL US WHY YOU’RE VOTING YES ON I-1433 — AND HELP US SPREAD THE WORD

When we stay silent, we lose.  When we share our stories and experiences, we win….again, and again, and again.  Now we need to win the $13.50 statewide minimum wage and paid sick days for ALL Washington workers.  And we need you to speak up to do that.

We are looking to feature the writing of those willing to tell us their stories for our campaign, in order to show voters the tremendous impact this law would have by putting a human face to it. By writing the reason you’re passionate about this change happening you could be the difference between someone sitting this vote out, or even change an opposition voter’s mind on the most important issue facing Washington workers this election cycle. Share your story here

3) VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

So yeah, it’s Step 3 here but if you’re only going to do one thing, this is the thing: fill out that circle next to Initiative 1433 and vote yes!

It’s literally the single most important thing you can do to raise the minimum wage. But let’s get real: it’s also literally the least you can do. So how about you look back at #2 there, or maybe try…

4) Convince other people to vote for Initiative 1433 — one Facebook post at a time

Lots of other groups ask volunteers to talk to co-workers in the break room, make phone calls to voters, and knock on neighbors’ doors — because direct conversations about how raising wages raises the whole economy are the best way to change opinions and get votes.

This year we’re trying something a little different — we’re  building a unique social media get-out-the-vote operation. Instead of door knocking, we’re organizing volunteers to reach out online by “wall-knocking” on Facebook, “message banking”, and more. Want to help this unique online approach to GOTV? Contact Online Organizer Milton Davis on Facebook, Twitter, or at milton@workingwa.org and we’ll hook you up.
